This 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 convertible is one of 402 convertibles produced for the model year and was delivered new. The car have 50,907 Miles. A cosmetic refurbishment under previous ownership included repairing rust, repainting the exterior in blue, and reupholstering the interior in white vinyl. Power comes from a 428ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and details include a power-operated white soft top, 15″ aluminum 10-spoke wheels, front disc brakes, and an AM radio. Service performed since 2020 has included replacing the starter, tires, and speedometer cable, and overhauling the convertible top mechanism and the suspension, braking, power steering, and exhaust systems. This GT500 is now offered at no reserve with owner’s manuals, a Deluxe Marti Report, service records.

This example is one of 97 delivered new in Sunlit Gold (Y) for the model year. The car received a bare-metal repaint in blue in 2023, and additional work at that time included repairing the fiberglass hood and removing rust on the fenders and driver-side rocker panel. Details include a power-operated white soft top with a glass rear window as well as a rear spoiler, side scoops, and a Shelby-specific tail panel and taillights. Service performed under previous ownership included replacing the windshield, reverse light wiring harness, and sequential turn signal relay assembly as well as the top pump, lift cylinders, and lines.

The 15″ aluminum 10-spoke wheels are mounted with E70-15 Goodyear Speedway tires. The shocks, front coil springs, rear leaf springs and shackles, ball joints, bushings, power steering cylinder, and power steering hoses were replaced during previous ownership. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the brake hoses and parking brake cables were also replaced.

The cabin features Décor bucket seats that were reupholstered in white vinyl under current ownership and are joined by matching door panels and black carpeting. Woodgrain veneers extend across the dashboard to the center console and door panels, and the car is equipped with a Philco AM radio and a roll hoop. The shifter boot and door pull end caps were replaced in September 2020. The factory-optioned air conditioning system does not work.

The two-spoke woodgrain steering wheel is mounted on a tilting column ahead of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Additional Stewart-Warner gauges for oil pressure and amperage are mounted in the center stack. A replacement speedometer cable was fitted in September 2020. The five-digit odometer shows 51k miles, though the total mileage is unknown.

The 428ci V8 is said to have a warranty replacement block and features a four-barrel carburetor and a finned Cobra-branded air cleaner assembly and valve covers. A Monte Carlo bar and a one-piece export brace are installed. The carburetor was rebuilt, the radiator was re-cored, and the starter was replaced in 2020.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Clutch components and the exhaust system were replaced in September 2020. A patch panel was installed on the floor pans in 2022 to repair rust. Additional underbody images are provided in the gallery below.

The Deluxe Marti report lists the initial selling dealer, the factory gold-on-black color scheme, optional equipment, build statistics, and a production date of March 21, 1968.
